In a recent press release, KLM announced that it will allow its employees to wear sneakers under their uniforms starting from May 6. This decision aims to provide more comfort during work and contribute to employee well-being.

Colleagues can either choose their own sneakers, which must meet specific requirements, or purchase the specially designed KLM sneaker by Filling Pieces. The initiative comes in response to the demand for more comfortable work shoes and aligns with the trend of wearing sneakers under uniforms in the airline industry. A pilot study conducted by KLM demonstrated that wearing sneakers contributes positively to employee well-being.

The release includes a testimonial from Senior Purser Willeke van den Boomgaard, who expresses satisfaction with wearing sneakers as part of her uniform.

As for whether it’s classy, it certainly seems like a thoughtful response to employee needs and a modernisation of uniform policy in line with industry trends. Offering employees more comfortable footwear options shows consideration for their well-being, which can enhance morale and productivity. So, yes, it could be considered classy.
